It's usually pretty handy to have a skeleton keystone or two on you at all times when you're exploring as well, provided you can afford them. In those cases, the keystone was inevitably in another room of the same tomb, or a reward from a different quest. That said, there are a few rooms we found in various tombs that had a keystone spot but no keystone in that room. "Key" in this case could be an actual keystone, or it could be a step plate, pressure plate, or something. You're no Simdiana Jones, are you? Almost all solutions for a given room are contained within the room itself, so if you see a locked door, chances are the key to advance is in that room somewhere. You may also want to think about the Hardly Hungry and Steel Bladder superpowers. Also, you'll want to keep in mind that some tombs have puzzles that require items bought from other locales, such as boulders in Egypt that only break when hit with a special axe found in China. Two Sims working in tandem for tomb exploration will speed things up, though all tombs can be soloed. You'll need Athletic to push around statues in tombs, Logic for disabling the traps in the tombs, and Charisma for getting information from the locals. Technically none, but having certain skills will make the adventure progress a bit quicker. What skills do I need to go on adventures? Female Sims who have shown signs of morning sickness but are not showing their pregnancy (and therefore haven't yet changed into maternity clothes) are allowed to go on vacation. Also, infants, toddlers, and female Sims who are showing their pregnancy are banned from travel. That means if two Sims are best friends or even engaged, if they don't live together, they cannot vacation together. Yes, but you can only travel on vacation with other Sims who live in the current lot, regardless of relationship level.
